Back in January, I kicked off the year by photographing a floral workshop at Sweet Root Village’s incredible studio space in Alexandria, Virginia. Whenever I get to work with Sweet Root Village, I know I’m in for an amazing time, and this workshop was no exception!
This particular floral workshop was hosted by Amy of Amy Nicole Floral, who is brilliant at all things floral design. She led all the bouquet design demos and critiques, and Sweet Root Village taught on business, pricing, and more.
The whole concept of this event was really cool— to be a comprehensive workshop that covered the creative and design aspects of floristry, as well as helpful information about owning and running a business. As a creative and business owner myself, I really appreciated seeing all of those topics taught so well.

I also loved getting to meet and work with so many talented florists. They all were so passionate and engaged in their work, and it was inspiring to see.
Over the two days, each florist created a bouquet and a centerpiece. They had so many gorgeous blooms to choose from in a variety of colors, such as pastel blue, blush pink, deep maroon, ivory, and citrus hues. Especially with so many contrasting colors, I loved watching the floral arrangements come together and see how all the flowers complemented each other.
Then, on day two of the floral workshop, the awesome Lindale Studios created a custom backdrop for us to shoot on. Their creation was made of neutral and gold tones that perfectly matched the floral color palettes.
Floral workshops are always some of my favorite things to shoot. I had a fabulous time with Amy Nicole Floral and Sweet Root Village, and I left the workshop feeling so thankful I get to work with so many talented creatives. I’m excited to photograph more floral workshops in the future!
