Flower Hoopla: a Floral Workshop | Alexandria, VA

Large bunches of flowers, such as peonies, roses, and tulips, in white vases on the ground in front of a coral-colored wall. The flowers are all different colors, including different shades of pink, yellow, and orange. Photographed by Virginia commercial photographer Kim Branagan at Sweet Root Village in Alexandria, VA.A few months ago I got to participate in one of my favorite events of the year: Sweet Root Village’s annual floral workshop called Flower Hoopla.

An incredible Alexandria, VA floral design team

Sweet Root Village is an extremely talented floral design company based in Alexandria, Virginia. Each year, they invite wedding planners from all over the greater Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area to their studio for a day of mingling, delicious snacks, and flower arranging. When they first asked me to photograph the event, I was so excited and immediately said yes.

Photographing fun, beauty, and delicious food at Sweet Root Village

This year’s Flower Hoopla did not disappoint. The color theme for this workshop was chosen for the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral

Every detail of the event matched the warm-toned aesthetic so perfectly, even down to the colors of the popsicles and charcuterie items that were served. Plus, the lush pink, orange, and yellow floral arrangements everyone made looked so cheerful and romantic. It was so cool to see the Sweet Root Village team’s incredible design talent shown off in this way.

I so loved getting to capture all of the fun and laughs that were had throughout the day. In fact, I’m already looking forward to next year’s Flower Hoopla, which will feature the gorgeous 2020 Pantone color, Classic Blue.

Why I love photographing floral workshops

As a photographer, I really enjoy getting to work with a variety of clients and projects. However, I  think that photographing floral workshops is one of my favorite aspects of my business. It doesn’t get much better than the combination of fun and inspiring people, snacks that are almost too pretty to eat, and beautiful blooms!
