A beachfront destination photo shoot for a lifestyle editorial in San Diego

I recently got to photograph the most dreamy destination shoot for a lifestyle editorial feature in San Diego, California.

This editorial photoshoot took place right on the beach, under the palm trees at the luxurious Bahia Resort Hotel. San Diego is known for it’s perfect, sunny weather, and the day of our shoot was no exception. I knew it was going to be a great day as soon as I saw the bright sunlight and endless blue skies when we arrived at the beach. It was such a fun opportunity to play with light in a gorgeous setting!

Capturing the simple, natural beauty of the day

During this shoot, our focus was on capturing the organic feel of the day. We didn’t have a strict plan for the shoot since we really wanted to prioritize photographing genuine moments and emotions. Since our beachfront location was so naturally beautiful, we made sure to highlight it throughout the day. We also kept our styling simple and made space for honest interactions between the two couples.

One of my favorite shots from this lifestyle shoot was of the couple playing in the water under the sunset lighting. It was a stunning moment!

I love photographing genuine, candid moments lifestyle photo shoots

Styled and editorial photo shoots usually tend to be more structured, but I love letting things flow naturally when possible. This approach was perfect for this beach-y lifestyle editorial. We were able to capture the most magical, candid moments by just letting the couples be themselves and seeing what the day brought us.

In fact, this editorial really reminded me how much I love photographing lifestyle and destination sessions for couples. Getting to spend a chill, beautiful day photographing an amazing couple is always so fun, especially in gorgeous locations like San Diego, California!
